Aboitiz Cup adds three divisions

(This report by Cheska Geli came out on Sun.Star Cebu on Oct. 28)
LOCAL coaches will meet on Nov. 4 to discuss the coming 14th Aboitiz Cup at the Aboitiz Sportsfield, Mandaue.

This year’s event will have three new categories—the  Players 6, men’s Under-19 and Under-23.

The event will still feature the Players 8 and 10, the Boys 12 and 14 and the girls’ 12 and 17 categories.

Players 6 will feature kids in a 5 a-side division adopting the Fifa festival type grassroots program.  For this division, coaches have yet to decide whether there will be an assigned goal keeper or not.

Cebu Football Association (CFA) will be the first association to adapt the festival type format in a tournament and they expect the rest of the football associations to follow.

The men’s under-19 and under 23 categories will be in preparation for the Smart under-19 championship and Suzuki under-23 championship next year.

The winning team will represent Cebu in the national competition against other teams in the country.

Those playing in the under-23 can’t play in the men’s open because of the conflict of schedule.

There will be no more men’s 38 above division and women’s open.

But for the women’s open, organizers are considering to have as an alternative a women’s futsal depending on the number of participants.

The Aboitiz Cup is tentatively scheduled on Nov. 12 but may be move a week later depending on the result of their meeting

why limit it to bpo? make it inter-cmpany

an inter company division would be a welcome addition. I hope the CFA knows the value an inter-company division will put to Cebu football.

The first step in getting companies to sponsor football activities is to get them sponsor their own football teams.

But, that's just me.

hello,

where can i inquire about a football clinic this summer for kids ages 6 years old to 12 years old?

My son is interested to learn how to play football but we do not know where or who to ask.

If you have the contact information it is greatly appreciated.

Kindly post it here and I will visit your blog to check it out.

Thanks,
Wen

Hi,

The clinics that I know of are the Milo Football Clinic at the Cebu City Sports Center and the Subangdako FC football clinics at Wireless Mandaue. I recommend Subangdako because the one of the instructors is PH Under 13 national coach Oliver Colina (That is if he's free this summer.)

I'll ask Subangdako for details (contact numbers) and will post it here. THanks

I asked one of the Subangdako FC officers and he said they are still mapping out plans for clinic, which is usually held in March. You may contact him at nsvillaflor@gmail.com
