ANS to skip Tredtel Cup

THE Treadtel Cup will add the Players 6 division when it kicks off the new season this weekend at the Aboitiz Spors Field.

The latest addition to the event jointly organized by the Cebu Football Association and Treadtel Tires will be in line with the grassroots program activities initiated by the Philippine Football Association.

Aside from the P6, the other divisions are Players 8 and 10, Girls 14 and 17, Boys 12, 15 and 17.

The tournament, which attracted 56 teams, will be missing Boys 17 defending champion Abellana National High School (ANS) Pomeroy and the Cebu International School, which is on its summer break.

But with their absence comes the participation of the under-13 national team known as the Little Azkals, under Oliver Colina. The team is expected to arrive on Friday and will have their first game the next day.

Other formidable teams in the city that will also be seeing action are Don Bosco Technological Center, Paref Springdale, Ateneo de Cebu and University of San Carlos girls team who will be defending their Girls 17 title.

Aside from the Treadtel Cup, local teams are also gearing up for the Aboitiz Cup, which is scheduled to open in the first week of September.

This year’s Aboitiz Cup will add the Boys 19 and Boys 23 categories and the winning teams will represent Cebu in the Under-23 Suzuki Cup Visayas Leg and Under-19 regional finals next year.

Mother Nature plays spoilsport

The heavy rains spoiled the debut of defending champions Don Bosco College yesterday, cutting short the match between DBC A(?) and Bright. Hopefully, it will be a sunny Sunday. P.S. It will be interesting to note, how DBC divided its teams for the U12.

A Pinoy played for Real Madrid? (updated)

HERE'S an interesting photo submitted by Asian Football Confederation women's committee member Cristina Ramos. Its taken at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and shows a gallery of the great players who played for Real Madrid. And guess where one of them is from? Jaron Genota said the only information he has managed to gather is that the player's name is Teus. I hope to get more information on this guy in the next few months. Ms. Ramos, who was also in the organizing committee of the Fifa U17 and U20 women's world cup, said the picture was part of Real Madrid's exhibit on the universality of their players. From Ms. Ramos, "Mike, the photo of the Filipino player was part of the display entitled "The Universality of our Players" in the Real Madrid museum in Bernabeu. It's funny that they acknowledged him but did not name him. Only those from countries which participated in the World Cup were named."
