Aboitiz Cup boycott

Photographers covering the Aboitiz Cup in the new Aboitiz Sports Field were made to pay P40.

Now, I've heard from the grapevine, one paper will boycott the Aboitiz Cup, as for us?....

Its a matter of foresight, or the lack of it. These people (Aboitiz Cup & CFA) never realized how media can promote their event. Or maybe, they just dont want you around, you MikeL and your tribe.

If they really value these media people, they could have anticipated by issuing a media pass/id, just like what we see in other football events.

In big international tournaments, I always envy the sports photographers - they are the only people allowed to stay near the goals and touchlines. The journalists on the other hand, are provided with their own cubicles above the VIP section. What a sight!

But not in Aboitiz Cup managed by CFA. They are made to pay. Duh!

To Mike, Manny & Rick, why force the issue? It seems you are not really welcome there. You are better off covering a barangay league. Got the drift?

so if CFA is saying that the guards disregarded their instructions not to charge the photographers, who is really running the show here? this is important to know because i dont believe the aboitiz group who was generous enough to spend more than a million pesos developing the field - an investment they do not hope to recover, will do something this petty. its not logical isnt it?

Yep. In previous interviews, the Aboitizes promised there would be no entrance fee for fans, except for the parking fee for maintenance, I guess.

I talked to a Cebu FA official as well as a photographer. The photographer told me that he had to pay last saturday but the week before that he didn't have to pay. The fees are collected by the Abotizes and the not the Cebu FA. Even my Cebu FA contact says he can't do anything about it. It's up to the Aboitizes on whether or not charge.

I say the exorbitant rates are too much. I'm not going to that field besides Makro unless the rates are reasonable.
