THE Canduman Elementary School-M. Lhuillier Sports Development Foundation (CES-MLSDF) and the Abellana National School-Pomeroy came up with steadier shots in the shootout to win their respective divisions in the Mintsports Shop Mizuno Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Both teams defeated separate squads from Paref Springdale to rule their division.
In the Players 10 finals, CES-MLSDFs Mark Joseph Pelizelda won a shootout of sorts with Enzo Ceniza to lead his team to a 2-0 win in the shootout.
In regulation, Ceniza put Springdale on top with a lovely goal from the corner in the eighth minute.
However, just as Springdale was celebrating, Pelizelda equalized with a shot to the keeper straight from the kickoff.
With no goals scored, the match went to shootout and Pelizelda converted his before Aldrich Pelenio shot was collected by the keeper while Ceniza missed.
John Cabuenas converted the final spot kick for CES-MLSDF to take the hard-earned win.
In the Boys 12 finals, Pomeroy was on the defensive most of the time as they faced a Springdale team who almost stood a head taller than them.
However, what they lacked in height they made up in speed.
The closest Springdale came to scoring was in the second minute with a long effort from Andone Ugarte, but his shot sailed just inches high.
In the shootout Ugarte missed while Kurt Ryan Arranguez connected for a 1-0 lead.
Keeper Joey Uy got Springdale back after stopping John Gomora, while NIko Villacin leveled the count.
However, Springdale missed on their final shot while Julius Cabigun connected for their thrilling win.
Meanwhile, the San Roque Football Club also ruled the Girls 12 division after topping the double-round robin eliminaton.
SRFC finished with three wins and a draw for 10 points, five clear of second placer Guiseppe, which posted a 1-2-1 win-draw-loss record.
Springdale also won the Players 8 final over Bright Academy, while the San Roque Royal United defeated Bright Academy B for the Players 6 crown.
Results in the other division were unavailable at press time, while today, the Mizuno Cup will resume with the Boys and Girls 17 and 19-Under, the Mens and Womens Open and the 36-above contest.
