TCC, CIS arrange finals showdown

TEAM Cebu City (TCC) and the Cebu International School (CIS) set up an interesting Aboitiz Division B finals after contrasting wins in yesterday?s semifinals at the San Roque Parish football grounds.

The youthful TCC ran Metropolitan FC aground, 3-0, while CIS had to survive losing its two main cogs and Miguel Red had to come up with a big save in their 2-1 escape over Queen City United.

Aside from getting a chance to play for the crown, the two teams will be promoted to Division A next year.

"The top two teams will be promoted to Division A and last two in division A will be relegated to Division B. Another plan is to have the last eight teams in Division B form Division C," said Cebu Football president Jonathan Maximo.

In the first semifinals, the veteran-laden Metropolitan FC came up with smart simple plays to counter the speed of TCC, which will play in this month?s Palarong Pambansa.

However, the relentless TCC offensive finally paid dividends, with Adrianne Mejaran scoring the first goal in the 71st minute.

TCC got its second goal three minutes later after the Metropolitan keeper ad a defender clashed, leaving the ball open for RJ Sembrano's simple tap in to an empty net.

In the 89th, Blui Arriola nailed the final goal after breaking away from the midfield for a short-range strike.

In the second game, Joshua Fegidero put CIS up front with an impressive show of resiliency in the 36th. Fegidero was chasing the ball with a defender hot in pursuit and both stumbled with the ball stopping between the two and keeper Francis Ramirez.

Fegidero quickly got up and banged the ball past Ramirez.

Queen City equalized in the 45th with a chip from Wicwic Caballero.

In the second half, Eleazer Toledo got booked for his second yellow after getting entangled with Richard Montayre and was sent off.

"Fifty-fifty alangan mahadluk ka," a fuming Toledo told match commissioner Sherwin Rodriguez before he got off the field.

In the 54th minute, Fegidero was pulled inside the penalty area and Oliver Colina converted the penalty to put CIS ahead.

Queen City also got a penalty in the 38th but Red managed to stave off Anthony Trinidad's shot to preserve the score.

Things turned ugly in the 40th when referee Archie Reyes sent off Colina with two Yellow cards barely a minute apart.

The two, who were already nursing a yellow card prior to yesterday's game, won?t be able to play in next week's finals.
