Some things never change

I met a few guys who went to the Cviraa football meet, and from their stories, it seems, nothing has changed in how (ironically) the Department of Education run the football tournament.

I've played in the then Decs (Department of Education Culture and Sports) meet in high school and I tell you, it seems, the official running the tournament either think that football is:

1. ) Like chess, you can play up to three matches a day.

2.) Like your friendly neighborhood pick up game, where you can stop the match if the referee wants to take a leak, or you can stop the match just because you want to.

Now the DepEd, is supposed to look after the welfare of the student athletes, right? But why, in the hell will they allow a schedule that will have one team playing three matches in a SINGLE DAY? Three matches?

You may think this is something out of this world but THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR!!!  When will they ever learn? Will DepEd wait until someone dies on the football field before they start to realize that playing three games in a day isn't good for the soul. (I remember, an athlete did die of a heart ailment in last year's Palaro)

Well, let's us let this DepEd offical play three 10-minute seven-a-side games and let's see if they last three games.

When will DepEd ever learn? Never it seems.  Every year, their games' schedule is suited for their officials' schedule, not for the well-being of the athletes.  Football isn't chess or scrabble and everybody knows that football, in major events like the olympics or the Sea Games, starts a week ahead of the other sports.

I'm going to place a bet.  I'm going to go bald, shave everything off my head, if DepEd ever changes and learns that playing three football matches doesn't do good to any student.
