Red Cards fly in Div. B
HINGS got ugly on the pitch in the Aboitiz Division B yesterday after the University of San Carlos Melvin Elle was downed by a vicious punch in their 7-0 win over FC Inter Cebu at the San Roque Parish yesterday.
USC had just scored their sixth goal when two minutes later Reino Ross Amora punched Elle, leaving the Carolinian blooded from a gaping wound just below his eye.
Amora was promptly red-carded by Archie Reyes, while match commissioner Sherwin Rodriguez immediately ran to call an ambulance.
According to Reyes, Elle got tangled with another FC Inter Cebu player and while the two were being pacified, Amora rushed in and punched the unsuspecting Elle.
He (Amora) came from the other side of the field, I was pacifying the two (Elle and the other FC Inter Cebu player) when the punch came, Reyes said.
Reyes also said during the first half, the FC Inter Cebu keeper was knocked unconscious after colliding with a USC striker. Fortunately, he was able to get up.
A red card carries an automatic one-game suspension but FC Inter Cebu has no more games to play.
However, according to the Philippine Football Federation Code of Discipline, which the CebuFA uses, Amora will serve an indefinite suspension for his punch.
Luoy kaayo, dako kaayo ang gisi, Rodriguez said of Elles wound.
Meanwhile, CebuFA president Jonathan Maximo has instructed both Reyes and Rodriguez to submit their report regarding the incident.
I will have that investigated, we will also ask the side of the player, said Maximo.
Rennuel Colina scored the first of his three goals in the 18th, while Josephus Bernaldez made it 2-0 in the 25. Colina added two more for a 5-0 lead.
In the second game, Sykes fought Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST) to a 1-1 draw with Melchor Wenceslao scoring in the third minute for Sykes and Ricarte Megrosa leveling in the 40th.
CSCSTs Junclar Lacia was also red-carded in the 61st for punching Wenceslao.
Nagpasumbag lang siya, wala nibalos (Wenceslao) kay kabalo man nga na-ay referee, said Reyes.
In the afternoon matches, FC Inter Lapu-Lapu blanked the University of the Philippines, 3-0, while Maitland Smith routed UP Alumni, 4-0.
