CIS trounces USC (ako nagsuwat ani)

YOUNG guns Team Cebu City (TCC) and Cebu International School (CIS) took a step closer to a title showdown after winning their quarterfinals matches in the Aboitiz Division B yesterday at the San Roque Parish.

TCC, which recently won the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association title, survived an early scare to beat Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT), 7-1, while CIS blanked the University of San Carlos (USC), 3-0.

TCC will next face the winner of the match between Metropolitan and Uptown FC, while CIS will take on Queen City B.

Queen Citry relied on Lukas Hago’s hat trick for a 3-0 win over Maitland Smith.

In the first game yesterday, CIT shocked the younger TCC as Ramon Alarcon scored the first goal for a 1-0 lead in the 28th,

However, CIT’s euphoria barely lasted a minute as Jessie Melgo equalized in the 29th for a 1-1 draw going into the half.

In the second, RJ Sembrano banged in the go ahead goal in the 49th before Melgo capped his hat trick in the 51st and 70th.  Harold Dagao made it a four goal cushion in the 78th while John Rey Sulib and Jundy Romero scored the final two goals.

On the other hand, National U21 mainstay benefited from the nifty assists of fellow RP team members Oliver Colina and Joshua Fegidero as CIS took a 2-0 lead at the half.

Colina drove from the left and found Sharpe open for their first goal in the third minute.  In the 38th and nifty back heel from Fegidero had CIS up two goals.

In the second half bungled three chances to get past CIS’ Miguel Red, with a header off a free kick in the 54th sailing wide.

Red also stopped a penalty in the 61st, before CIS scored their third goal in the 62nd this time with Sharpe playing the provider to Kevin Trunkner.

Meanwhile, CIS and Don Bosco College also scored easy wins in the first day of the Aboitiz 15 Under Cup last Saturday still at San Roque.  DBC blanked Bright Academy with Peter Ricamora scoring six goals and Karl Arcenas netting four, while CIS dumped FC Inter Cebu, 13-0.

Emmanuel Cunningham had five while Rowdy Elbers had four in CIS win.
