Brunei edges past RP, 3-2

TWO late goals and the Philippines' shot of making it to the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy U21 semifinals was dashed after Brunei eked out a 3-2 win yesterday.

The loss kept the Philippines at the bottome with 0 points, while Myanmar is number one with six points and Brunei second with four.

The Philippines took a 2-0 lead in the first half, before Brunei scored in the 55th and the host  scored two more goals in the final two minutes.

Had the Philippines won, it would have gained the second spot as Brunei with be at third with one point together with Cambodia, which got routed by Myanmar, 7-0, in the other game yesterday.

Sayang no? But I'm really glad there's a renewed attention for football in the Philippines. Though much is still to do for building a winning team, including building academies and training enthusiasts, nurturing them from a very early age.

I wish the government is as agressive about this as our regional counterparts.

Yeah. You can see and feel the passion in the eyes of the few who truly love and devote so much of their time, energy and resources to this way of life. I believe that somewhere, somehow there is an untapped, undiscovered opportunity for football to grow such as it has done in other more progressive countries. We're definitely going in that direction. It's just the politics, red tape, and all that other nonsense that's dragging the process along at such a slow, slow pace.
