USC, USJ-R face off for Cesafi crown

USC, and USJ-R bagged a finals seat after hacking out similar wins in the Cesafi football semifinals yesterday at the CCSC.

USC, defeated UV, 4-2, on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

USJ-R outlasted USP-F, 4-2, also on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

USJ-R was expected to be in the final round. they have been 4-peat champions until UV dislodged them last year. good news is the performance of USPF, who gave USJ-R a scare by with a 1-1 draw in regulation.

but the real good news is the USC Team who has not been contending lately. they have new and good players in their squad plus a better coaching staff this time.

UV has been weakened by the inability of its veteran players to join the tournament due to academic reasons, with the organizer/TM barring a number of players to play due to eligibility rules re academic/scholastic issues. its good they are strict this time. rules are rules.

i was scanning the sports pages for the schedule of the semis games but didn't noticed any. i really wanted to see the games. the tournament organizers should have put some attention on promoting the matches.

Sun Star, Freeman & Cebu Daily News carried the CESAFI Football with big stories and photos of the Semi-Final games and results. Nice promotion of the tournament. Keep it up.

take a look at the rookies and sophomore players of USC and take a look at those of the other teams. for two years, USC has picked the cream of the crop of cebuano players - namely tirol, soriano, bacolod, atillo, buot, and gacayan. also enrolled in USC are former cebuano awardees of the defunct coke-go-for-goal tournament who may try-out for the team next year. the other teams has been dependent of their 3-5 year players and hasn't really given the younger ones a decent exposure.

UV and USJR has many players in their last year of eligibility. if they cannot recruit well during the off-season then USC may be favorites for 2-3 years if they keep their young players in the squad. Fegidero brings with him the Negros type of football - attacking wings and defensive/attacking midfielders who are adept at overlapping offensively with the strikers. you cannot defensively mark just the strikers because their midfielders will simply do the attacking.

USJR will aim for another title streak. USC is the young and hungry team. Fegidero wants to create an impact as a coach here while Bono wants to prove that he is still numero uno.

here is one amazing trivia - the proudest coach out there would have to be coach ramos. he has 5 players in USC and 5 players in USJR who played for him when they were still playing in the younger age-groups.

by the way, when is the championship match going to be ?

Championship match is on thursday at 1 for the third place match and at 2:30 for the championship match.

By the way the fact that the results of the semifinals game were published (with accompanying huge fotos) is not a result of good promotion. It's because the media simply did their job.

Let me lecture you on the picture vis a vis the story.

Don't gloat on the big pictures, see the "larger picture."

I was at the venue at 3:30, expecting to catch the latter part of the second semifinals match.

The schedule was 1 p.m. for the first game, 3:00 p.m. for the second game. The first game went to extension, so 90 minutes plus 20. Plus the 10 minute half time break, the first game lasted (minus the shootout) a total of 120 minutes.

But, went i got there at 3:30, it was still the first extension. So, 3:30, from 1 p.m. is 150 minutes, does that mean the first game got delayed by 30 minutes?

I have this thing for people taking credit for what we do. Good promotion? heck, the freeman never carried the USJ-R, USP-F result. I was honestly suprised why CDN carried it, knowing they have an earlier deadline, but, judging from how the story was written the CDN guy was probably there, and that is a first.

I left at a quarter to five. I got the result of the second game, a few minutes to eight, AFTER, i have written my first story without the result of the second game, (which makes me all wonder how CDN got their story, we may have a new football convert)

If you want to brag about promotion, don't go brag armed with football stories on the papers, unless you want people to think that Cebu football promotion is all about getting in the paper.

Go brag, when you can fill a stadium full of people for a football match.
