Etiquette for football parents

I'm no father to a football player, though I may understand the feelings of a parent vis-a-vis their athlete child, but allow me some inputs.

1.) cheer, don't taunt.

There's a difference. Nobody will care if you come with your drum and bugle corps to cheer your team, or you use the loudest fog horn to cheer a goal.

But mind you, if your team is losing bu (n) goals to none, please don't go around screaming,

"Paspas sila mudagan, kay mga snatchers man na,"

2.) There is no place for "boos."

you are watching a bunch of kids playing football, and in football, players normally push each other out, to get to the ball. Bellowing out a "boo" that can be heard all over the field is counterproductive.

3.) If you don't understand the game nor know the rules: SHUT UP!!!
SHUT UP!!

4.) Winning is not everything, its how you played the game.

i still dont have a daughter or son who plays the game but surely i can understand the feelings of a parent watching his or her child playing (win or lose)...i can see and i can tell that not all parents can play the game...and this is one reason why they behave like that...though i am not saying that they have to learn how to play now...its too late...they just have to understand fully the game we love to play...

SOCCER / FOOTBALL = POETRY IN MOTION

i have been playing this game since my elementary years until now (though struggling na..hahaha)...i have been into all kinds (games / tournaments within and outside cebu)of winning and losing...clean and tough games, hard and rough games, frat members and fans shouting threats and rumble after games...without parents watching in the sidelines...

and lately, i have seen positive changes as the years passed by...parents accompanying their child / children to tournaments...the whole family giving support to the family member who is playing...players learning the basics, coaches upgraded, officiating? nah...ill give them an A OK...

my point is, the game is now shall i say well introduced and accepted by a good number of individuals and groups. i am hoping that this will continue and eventually become better in the future...scenarios like the one mentioned above is so sad to hear...in everything that we do, we have to know how to accept the result...even if its negative...we just have to learn how to stand up and move on...if parents behave differently, then they are not giving good examples to the children...this game has taught me a lot of good things and help build my character and made me a better person...if this kind of NOT NICE scenarios will continue to happen and especially coming from the parents...then i dont know what will happen...

many parents dont really understand the rules of the game. they should shut up or learn more about the game. more often, they tend to apply the foul rules in basketball (which they are more familiar with) to football and they expect more fouls to be called. boos should be reserved for referees and not for players.

ditto on prolific's and roberto's comments.

this is a contact sport and the small number of goals and the long time one has to wait in-between goals makes it all the more exciting. as the game wears on and your child's team is down by a goal, the slightest contact will be interpreted as attempted homicide by parents who don't fully understand the rules of the game.

i too, has followed and played the sport for decades. the support of parents today is invigorating but their lack of understanding of the vital rules and their resulting reactions kindda takes the fun out of watching and playing. when i watch games, i clap and complement great plays and moves made by the other side and not just those of the team i am supporting.

I think we should educate these parents who doesnt seem to have a know how on how soccer suppose to be played. Coaches should take the responsibilities, teach em' the rules and be the first one to tell em' to get their ass off the playing field when these guys starts to get rowdy.

Yes, its really hard to control them, and its part of the responsibility of the coach to educate parents little by little and to let them know what is the effect of there children if they perform those kind of things.
