na hala, here's mine:

P6 - Pepito
P8 - Springdale
P10 - Don Bosco
P12 - Don Bosco
P14 - Tossup between Springdale (because of the 1992born players) and Don Bosco (because of the 2006 Palaro members born 1993)
P17 - Springdale
Men's Open - Hiroshi
36Above - Queen City
pass ko sa ladies events.
media drinking contest - get me a media pass and i'll give you a run for your money.
cigarette smoking contest - give me the trophy.

parents and supporters will be told that the pitch and track will be off limits except for coaches and players. nobody will listen.

the upper part of the grandstand will be filled with cigarette smoke. some water coolers will be loaded with beer.

there will be a rematch of Parents Trap 1 and 2. this will be the most awaited rematch of the year.

naay mag sinumbagay sa 36 above.

the PFF youth coaches will wonder why some of the more talented players weren't seen during the try-outs.

naay mga japanese managers nga mag lakaw-lakaw as if the own the place.

naay jolibee and mcdonalds magsuroy suroy. halin kaayo na sila.

mag-yawyaw ko afterwards because the expense for a seven a side festival should have been put to better use into organizing more and longer tournaments.

How about some bald headed idiot walking around pretending to be amazed when a player makes a cross-pass and exclaims that he just found another Beckham. ...and that same person to mumble aloud on how things would be so much better if people acknowledge his God-given right to be CFA and FCIC manager while at the same time juggling a VP position at NAMBLA and a janitorial position at Badgers bar and restaurant.

Mike, do you have a list of the teams in the Mens Open category?
Anonymous said…
I have, but its in the office.

There are 37 entries in the Men's Division

did you see the game of sacred heart against pabol? it was one of the most if not the most interesting game. every single person watching expected pabol to win,but because of a handball which resulted to a free kick sacred heart scored.but they probably did not deserve that win...they barely had any attempts and had a hard time to go to the other side. their goal was not even a REAL goal,it was just luck which was on their side

another big blow was cis don bosco and springdale, none of them won a title. very ironic dont you think? the only game which did not come as a surprise was that cis won the g12 and g17 title.

honeslty, i dont think playing brackets really will determine the better team.they do not go agaisnt everyone. take what happened in the girls and boys u17 category...and mind you, the san roque Girls u17 lost too
Anonymous said…
springdale won the boys 8 if i am not mistaken. don bosco won the boys 14 but not cebu-don bosco vicmico (negros)

the entry of out-of-town teams like cagayan de oro, dumaguete, negros occidental, naga will definitely improve the level of competition of the aboitiz festival. I hope they will be back next year. with this you can really see the mettle of the cebu teams-

COngratulations to the organizer.

Who won the mens open?
Anonymous said…
anonymous2, i do agree with you that everyone watching the u17 game pabol against sacred heart were voting for pabol to win. It was a lucky one for sacred heart to have the penalty after maximo committed a handball and since pabol's goalkeeper was injured after playing with the same team during the mizuno festival. One thing im confused about though was why did pabol let their goal scoring player be the goalkeeper?

don bosco college won the B12. the majority of the starting lineup of the USC-TC team that won the Boys U17 were alumni from DBC, winning over DB-Victorias. DB-Boys Home U17 also reached the semifinals. DBC were runnerups in the P10 wherein 8 DBC teams participated. Don Bosco Victorias won the B14. the Don Bosco football program again proved it's effectiveness.

Pepito (P6), Springdale (P8) and DBC (B12) winning their respective divisions were my predictions. a big disappointment though were DBC B14 and Springdale U17. both teams didn't even reached the quarterfinals. anyway, the festival should not be taken as a true measure of their worth. both are teams that has shown their mastery on full sided matches.

despite minor hitches in the scheduling, the festival was well prepared. having it played at the CCSC made night matches possible. i liked the way the matches were scheduled based on divisions. if possible, succeeding festivals should use this system as a standard. the weather even cooperated.

complaints - only very minor ones that has nothing to do with the matches. water and softdrink vendors participated in highway robbery in broad daylight. parking suddenly was by the hour instead of per entry. many ended up paying over 200pesos for parking. those tents that were setup at pitch 5 obscured the games played on that pitch.

i didn't stay to watch the men's open. hope no untoward incident occured.

just a correction on the Pabol-Sacred Heart match. the crowd support wasn't all for PaBol. it was pretty even because from start to finish, the Don Bosco players, coaches, alumni and supporters cheered on the Sacred Hearters.

Don Bosco alumni are part of the training staff of the Hearters. this team actually trained at DBC before, in field and futsal. as a matter of fact, some PaBol members started playing with the Hearters.

just a matter of sibling rivalry for both teams.
Anonymous said…
The hearters goal was not a REAL goal? A free kick is a real goal. Also the Hearters (Juanita I think) were in the toughest bracket. Pabol's bracket only had Science High, Bright, and CIE for competition. So for the Hearters to reach the finals by qualifying from their bracket and legitmately beating Pabol with a real goal and beating SRFC (an excellent team) albeit through penalties shows that they deserved their standing in the tournament. Don't belittle the achievements of those girls, they deserve their place in the sun.

hehehe, a goal coming from a free kick is not a goal ? from what planet is PaBol basing the rules on ? next time we have a festival, we better watch out for any rule changes that may classify a free kick as "not a REAL goal ? hehehe, ignorance can sometimes be funny.

that was a good strike, hitting the net high at near post, the only open area where the ball can go thru since the wall was well positioned and the far post was covered.

the Hearters' defense contained the PaBol offense in the second half. using a back three plus a defensive midfielder after their goal made it a defensive game for them. there was no big hurry to score an insurance goal - after all, this was only a 15 minute game. what PaBol did wrong offensively was that they didn't adjust their game plan when they were down by a goal. they should have turned offensive minded. they didn't realize that the Hearters' weren't playing to score another. PaBol should have added another striker or put their goalie (who they claimed was their best goal scorer) into the offensive line. what happened in the 2nd half was that it was always 3 against 4 when PaBol attacked in favor of sacred heart. all the Hearters' had to do was cover a player. the Hearters' goalie also did a great job by making several great saves. PaBol had the penalty shot but failed miserably. they had their chances, they didn't capitalize on it.

players from both teams played their hearts out. that's what made the game fun to watch. Sacred Heart had a game plan, stuck to it, and adjusted when necessary. PaBol failed to make the necessary adjustments. they should blame themselves and not point fingers at the Hearters'.

end of story. hope to see similar matches in the future. hopefully in an 11 a side setting.

To anonymous2, i think your looking to the wrong pitch or you just been told about what had happened. Maybe what you meant about "not a real goal" is, it was not an ordinary goal! Hitting a cross bar in a free kick is a difficult thing to do, considering you have a wall infront of you. Saying this kind of things will not improve Cebu Football, why not in courage your players to do better next time and boost their moral by giving them recognition to their accomplishment, in this way you improve your players and the same time improve Cebufootball level of competition.

the Sacred Hearters' made a dramatic jump as far as their skills are concerned by training in futsal. their improvement showed in their increase in stamina and their defensive reflexes wherein they consistently rushed back to cover a counter attack. mariel, their goalie, became accustomed to the faster futsal game thus her reflexes against penalty shots and free kicks became better.

going back to PaBol's claim that the Hearter's goal was not a REAL goal, let me remind them that when these two teams met at the Mizuno Cup, the first PaBol goal entered thru the side of the goal. there was no net but everybody near the goal saw it and pointed it out to Andot, the ref. Andot called it in because it wasn't clear to him. talking about "REAL" goals, that obviously wasn't "REAL".

on that same game, several minutes later, Sacred Heart scored a clear goal, but Andot called it a no-goal because according to him it entered from the side. that happened right in front of the organizers' tent and even the refs at the sidelines said it should have counted. now that was a REAL goal, not a FAKE one given on a silver platter by a referee.

ladies and gentlemen, please define KARMA and use it in a blog topic.

For everyone's information, Pabol's most important goal-scorer became their goalkeeper because she too was injured and could not perform to the best of her abilities.

sacred heart girls won fair and square. people who disagree just have to deal with it.

hey ronaldo take it easy bud. You seem to know a lot about the hearters (not sure about ur team name) and you seem to be so defensive of them so im guessing you're their coach or whatever...lets not start any fights here...this is suppose to be a site for hearing about the latest news about football in cebu not about Criticizing and certainly not about displaying which teams are much better(so everyone stop saying good stuff about your OWN team and using other names to make it many..its pretty obvious who you guys are) Just prove it on the field and one more thing the only thing I see is the "Pabol fans" are saying that the heaters' goal was CHAMBA--if you don't know what it means, it means lucky shot. but in football there are no fake goals, just goals not clearly seen by refs. About your concern during the mizuno cup how sure are you that the hearters' shot went in? and pabols shot didn't go in? Let's not make any assumptions here. Just making it clear to everyone Im not taking sides here coz I've never seen any of these teams play..just justifying what needs to be justified. Remember take it easy and prove it on the field not here. Good luck to both teams. Mike, just one favor kindly delete all the comments that are bad about all the said teams because I think its best if we do to this to resolve everything. remember "PLAY FAIR"

ref, I think you are getting this one wrong. This is a blogspot. You can comment on the threads here- positive or negative. If you want news, read the newspapers.

ref, read the previous posts and then read my posts regarding the issue. i complemented players from both teams because they played their hearts out. my comments didn't insult nor degrade the players of PaBol. my posts commented mostly on the tactics and counter tactics of both teams, what went right with one and what went wrong with the other.

what didn't go well with many readers here was the insults made against the Sacred Heart team. review my posts and look for any personal insult i made. what i posted was my assesment of the field tactics employed by PaBol and not an attack on the players.

PaBol supporters decided to insult the Sacred Heart players. others reacted the way they want to react, i reacted the way i usually do, make a personal assesment on the tactics of the team.

i didn't say Sacred Heart was better than PaBol. i said that Sacred Heart stuck with the game plan they prepared while PaBol didn't adjust to the situation they found themselves in. where is the insult in that ?

ref, you mentioned "fair play". you reacted to the reactions on the insults posted against the Sacred Heart team, that they didn't deserve the fruits of their hard work and efforts. yet you remain silent on what what PaBol supporters are posting. where is your version of "fair play" in that ? you say you are not taking sides yet you react only to comments made against PaBol. how about reacting to comments made against Sacred Heart so that you can prove your nuetrality.

other posters here reacted with more degrading terms. why single-out my assesment of the game plan of both teams ? why consider my posting of how the players made themselves better players such a threat to your version of "fair play". if i were you, go after the posters who used terms like "that wasn't a REAL goal", "boang" and "don't deserve it". again, i never used those terms.

the mizuno cup goals ? i listened to the other refs watching that one goal shouldn't have counted while the other should have. i simply quoted the refs. i didn't say PaBol cheated, again review my posts. i said that the ref got his decisions wrong, even the other refs said this but that was an irreversible decision that many understood and accepted. "fair play" was observed in that match because you didn't hear the Sacred Heart team making a protest nor insulting PaBol despite those two "goals", thus that KARMA comment. the team accepted the decision as part of the game. PaBol supporters should do the same.

this site was intended to hear all sides of cebufootball. a natural effect of this purpose would be to read criticisms meant to improve what needs to be improved.

i first posted that this was nothing more than sibling rivalry between both teams - human nature for sister squads. rivalries are always good for the sport, as long as it remains on the field. and one doesn't have to be a coach of a team to take that team's side. if the situation was reversed and PaBol got the wrong end of the stick then i would post here defending PaBol. it just so happened that i and many others felt that PaBol supporters posted unfair comments. i suggest that you review your stand and take a look at what PaBol supporters posted before you make your comment.

ronaldo, you mentioned "rivalry is good as long as it remains on the field", it reminded me of what happened saturday. Since I was not there, can you, or anybody who witnessed it, please relate the incident that happened between sacred heart and db-vicmico. I didnt exactly get it from stories told me. thks

Amen

the sacred heart - don bosco-victorias incident was simply a matter of trash-talking going overboard. both players involved were at it the whole match. one went to far with his words (allegedly it involved rearranging one's body parts), the other got "pikon" and an intended sucker punch flew but connected as a hard push.

end of story right ? ref gives one a red card the other a yellow.

nope, didn't end that way. it happened at the end of the game and the ref didn't see it (common in festivals wherein no other official can help out). there was some pushing on the field then DB-Victorias went up to the grandstand to wait for the championship match.

that obviously should have been the end of the story right ? nope again.

the punched one wanted to confront the punchee and went up the grandstand. at least to his credit, he went by his lonesome and didn't ask anybody else to fight for him. his teammates and coaches had to bring him back. there was no rumble, just words flying. there was a lot of posturing but nothing really happened.

anyway, the proverbial cooler heads prevailed, and everything was settled. the punchee explained the events leading to his punch to the mom of the punched.
the DB-Victorias manager is a close personal friend of the punched-one's family so everything got cleared up.

some spectators though, with no connection whatsoever to both teams and with minds small as peanuts wanted something bloody to happen in order to intimidate the DB-Victorias team. yup, grown men intimidating a 15 year old player. so it was decided that the player be brought back to quarters escorted by bosconians from cebu.

finally, end of story.

Hey hey hey, isnt soccer supposed to be a source of unity? not rivalry? Anyway, yes, i do agree that the sacred heart - Pabol game was very interesting. Majority of the people there were for Pabol, no offense to sacred heart..they had their fans too. But anyway, both showed talent and skill. Eventhough the sacred heart team scored the winning goal agains Pabol, i congratulate Pabol for doing a job well done and sacred heart for their victory (may be a lucky shot or not). However, Pabol was clearly dominating, no offense to sacred heart again (we know they scored the first and last goal). Congratulations to CIS for winning the championships.

one thing that really pisses me off is how people underestimate the ability of others. just because they're not well known doesn't mean they're no good. in fact they could be better.

wealth can't buy skill or talent. just because they got the cash doesn't mean they're all that.
Anonymous said…
soccerxangel... Who has the cash? Pabol? Or Sacred heart? Or who do you mean? Hahaha

johnnyboi, a free kick is not a lucky shot. Let's call a spade a spade.
