Aboitiz Under-18

The Aboitiz Under-18 got overshadowed by the Mizuno Cup, but there are a lot of issues in the Aboitiz U18 -- one San Roque's forefeiture against USC and the UC vs. Hiroshi game, which had one player sent out.

CebuFA announced that they will be very strict this year concerning forfeitures. how strict will they be on San Roque ? last year, DBC's David Gerali got a one year suspension for forfeiting. Will the same apply to Totot Colina ? How will it affect his coaching duties at Bright ?

that UC vs Hiroshi game sure got my temper up. two Hiroshi players were obviously offside - there was no beating the offside trap there, i should know, i was directly behind the linesman and i have 20-20 vision - yet no flag came up. no use complaining to the CebuFA about the result though. referee ineptitude is an unfortunate part of the game.

Coach David Gerali and his Don Bosco team forfeited their games not once but twice in the same tournament! Coach Totot and his San Roque team forfeited the game once. Their is difference when you do it once and twice in a row

correct me if i'm wrong, but the ruling the decision was based on was simple forfeiture and not multiple forfeiture in the case of coach Gerali. if CebuFA will play consistent and stick to precedent, coach Colina should also be handed out a 1 year sanction in coaching U19 teams. as far as the rules are concerned, there is no difference between forfeiting 1 game and forfeiting 2 games.

but if you ask me, a similar sanction is senseless. why - because there is no other U19 tournament for totot this season, unless SRFC won the right to represent Cebu in the regionals. there are the festivals but coaching is virtually non-existent in this small-sided matches. coach Gerali was allowed to coach in the other age groups and was also allowed to play in the Aboitiz.

the sanction that made sense to me was the one handed out to coach Glen Ramos when UC "walked-out" of that CESAFI match. the 1 tournament ban against coaching at the collegiate level and the 1 tournament ban on the team is a more effective sanction than the previous one.

if the same sanction as coach Gerali will be meted out to coach Totot, then the sanction will take effect on the next U19 NEXT YEAR !!! that's not much of a punishment.

Totot cannot be given the same sanction as Glen because he doesn't have a team in the collegiate level. however, if i have my facts right, totot coaches several teams in SRFC and also at Bright. my opinion would be to ban Totot for 1 age-group tournament wherein he is the recognized coach. CebuFA will also have to consider banning SRFC U19 team from the next U19 tournament.

Bai Totot, nothing personal here. this is an issue of policy. na-timing lang nga ikaw ang na sentro sa issue. hope you understand.

i disagree with Maximo's proposed solutions as printed in today's SunStar. emphasizing USC's possible chances to win the tournament thru goal difference was very unprofessional. while SRFC is still miles away from the other teams, to assume that they will just lie down and allow USC to score over them is a very unprofessional statement (assuming that the game was played).

nullifying SRFC's games would benifit USC and it wouldn't be fair to UC and Hiroshi. rescheduling the USC-SRFC match should only be done if SRFC notified CebuFA properly so that the game could be properly postponed. a forfeiture was already declared, the scoresheet signed, thus that "game" is done and over with.

both solutions Maximo proposed will be interpreted by many as favoring USC. he should just let the standings be as it is. either of the proposed solutions means Maximo would be changing the rules of the tournament in the middle of the tournament, a basic no-no in sports. Maximo must resist from making a political decision and let the tournament rules stand on their own.

several years back in the age-groups level, several teams failed to advance to the semis because they were not able to pad their goal difference/goals scored when Banawa Elementary School and SRFC forfeited a majority of their games. Maximo then did not make any rule changes in favor of the disadvantaged teams - he shouldn't do so now. for the sake of integrity, he should be consistent.

i feel the frustrations of the USC team. i personally know and followed several of the players when they were still in grade school and still had no idea what to do with a soccer ball. i know that situations such as this is very frustrating to a young player. one of them later came up to me at the Mizuno Cup and said he was very dissapointed but accepted it as part of the game. if 17-18 year olds can understand that, then our adult football leaders should do so too.

USC can still win it if they beat Hiroshi. together with UC, the three teams are tied in points. that means the three teams will be gunning for wins and not be settling for draws. that makes it even more exciting. look at it this way, the SRFC forfeiture was not the end of the tournmanent - it just made things interesting.

its ok ronaldo i understand your side but lets just wait, thats your concern i know that..but to tell you im not coaching san roque right now, when the time i am hired by bright academy i only trained the kids in san roque and every body knows that...i only coach the mens open now and go for community service in san roque...training the kids, what i want is to help the kids...i want to clarify things i am not coaching any age groups in san roque only mens and that of the under 18 boys,im doing pastoral community service in helping training the kuds...

i just re-read the SunStar article and noticed that Maximo stated that "CebuFA will NOT be sanctioning the coach because they informed the organizers beforehand that they will be skipping the games."

this is getting confusing. if they received notice of SRFC's non-appearance in that match then why the forfeiture ruling ? why not just reschedule the match ?

PFF rules states that a forfeiture warrants a penalty. if the match was ruled a forfeiture, then why should their be no penalty on the coach ? last year's precedent placed the blame on the forfeitures on the coach. why won't the same ruling apply now. a forfeit of any circumstance is still a forfeit, right ?

can somebody explain Maximo's definition of forfeiture please ?

tot, wala man ko ni diretso. naa man sa sunstar nga dili ka ma sanction. wala man na gi imbento nako. klaro kaayo ang gi-pangutana nako. NGANONG NI DECLARE MAN OG FORFEIT KUNG NAGPAHIBALO KA NGA DILI MAKA-DUWA ANG MGA BATA. ikaduha nga pangutana KUNG TINUOD NGA FORFEIT, NGANONG DILI MAN KA MA SANCTION.

Ronaldo its good that CebuFA acknowlege that SRFC informed them ahead of time... hence their shouldnt be any penalty, right!

Problem here as you pointed out... that they were informed beforehand and the decision was still forfeiture of the game... Since it is so... penalties should be handed out... sounds confusing isnt it....

Well, Ronaldo please understand this isnt the first time such a decision was made, so lets give them a chance.

What is important is they acknowlege SRFC's case and the importance of education...
also keep in mind that SRFC's case is totally different from the previous short comings.

Pat on the back goes to CebuFA....

riscoh, that's exactly what i've been pointing out. if totot informed CebuFA that they cannot play and CebuFA acknowleged that they were informed, why did they have to declare a forfeiture. that is what i don't understand.

you are also partly right, this issue is not exactly the same as in the case of coach David Gerali. but the last time i took a look at the PFF rules, "a forfeiture of a scheduled game will result in a fine and/or suspension of either the coach, the team or both". that is also the question i want answered because CebuFA already declared (it's at SunStar Online) that they will not sanction totot.

Riscoh, a forfeiture was declared so according to PFF rules, a sanction should be given to either Totot, SRFC or both. i didn't demand that a sanction be given. all i did was state the PFF rule.

i even told totot that he doesn't deserve a long or heavy sanction because the non-appearance of the SRFC had a valid reason and that all he has to do is show proof or certification from the principal and i'm sure that CebuFA will be lenient on him. ang problema
ni Totot kay nikalit man lang og panawag nga ehas ta. siya pay gi-labanan, siya pay manginsulto. aw kung mao nang iyang batasan, aw di dili na lang gud ta mo laban gud.

Yah... I fully understand your point Ronaldo.... just didnt feel like bitching today... heheheheheh...

Im just happy to hear that no punishment was given to Totot and the team... and I wouldnt want them to punish the guys for the things they cant control.

Maybe next time when they issue some sort of a press release.. or what the heck they call it... They should probably site which rules their decisions were based upon... Coz base on what you've pointed out... if it was a forfeiture of the game then they deserve penalties and not just let em go as if nothing had happend... and they should try to reschedule the game coz... it not fair to SRFC and the team(s) which were affected by the decision. Even if SRFC is bound to lose the game, experience would benefit them in the long run...

No worries... Ronaldo

you know what, i wouldn't mind buying myself a copy of the CebuFA rulebook. i think that is one way of eduacating everybody about CebuFA policies and sanctions. that way, everyone knows what to expect and what not to do.
