The CebuFA president

What -- please distinguish it isnt 'who'-- the CebuFA president should be.

Tada!!!

A few reactions on those nominated in the chatbox.

First me.

Seriously, that's not possible and I'm not interested. Thanks for the vote of confidence though, but I do what I do because I love football and I want to help it grow, not because I want to be part of the policy making body -- here's a thought, you can help influence policy without the need of being in the body.

Second nominee, Ronaldo.

First, I've learned to admire and take seriously Ronaldo's posts and comments here, but seriously folks, must we nominate (no offense bay Ronaldo) a guy for president because of his posts in this blog?

Third nominee (s) Elying and Babot.

I know both guys though I know Elying better, but still, they can serve Cebu Football more as coaches than as president and it's not about lack of skill or what.

Fourth. Hi red horse

Fifth... I was gonna put something really smart here...but I kinda of got...........

hehehe, none taken bai mike. stepping into others shoes, i wouldn't vote for myself either.

i'm not interested - end of story. but what i would like to happen is to have a change in the system of elections to insure that all sectors with genuine stakes in cebufootball are properly represented.

i would like the buying of voting rights stopped. let the CebuFA determine who are clubs and teams that have genuine football programs and are consistently participating in tournaments and assign them voting rights.

one team/school - one vote.

let these official team/school repesentatives vote among themselves who will sit in the 9 man board. their may be arguements that some schools or teams have more players than others but i don't look at population as an issue.

what these representatives will bring to the board will be individual school and team programs that they should integrate into one whole football development scheme tailor-made for cebu. we then stop looking at cebufootball as a battle of personalities but progress to a community following a set of policies and programs.

Bono and Toledo - i know both. but i agree, they would be more productive coaching than managing.

Wow, I was surprised there were alot lot of reactions about the CFA presidency. Its good to know that people are interested in this topic..., although there were mixed opinions on this but there's one thing I think everybody wants...... TIME FOR A CHANGE .... not just the presidency but also the system.

Now, here's my reason why I choose Mike.... just for the record I dont know him personally and Ive never met him either. I know Mike is NOT INTERESTED, well its sad and I cant force him ...

So, here it is... I choose him over other people mentioned ... (Babot, Elying ... ) because of his passion and love of the game not because of how he manage to setup this blog and post articles about football. I know both BABOT AND ELYING .... they are both good at what they do .... but I think they are better of as a coach. Both of these guys do this "football" for a living so you cant really say a 100% that they'll do it just for the love of the game...

And in Mike's case, he helped promote cebu football just for the LOVE FOR THE GAME, "but RED HORSE was always on top of his list... hehehe". And not only... just about the love of the game. I think being a media person would help him do a better job... I dont have to elaborate on this, right... I think neither of the above aforementioned names are comfortable dealing with the likes of a Politician, Company Manager, CEO and all the big guns that could help promote the sports....

Once again Mike I know YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED BUT PLS DO CONSIDER, JUST FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME...

Thats my 2 cents

maximo still has a year left. if he can facilitate the needed changes and can gather the community so that a development program can be formulated and adopted then he might just be retained as president - if he desires so. however, he needs to explain to the community why the first three years of his term happened the way it did, and convince us that he can still be the leader we hoped he could have been, by putting forth a program that is implementable and accepted by the majority.

i look forward to a CebuFA board that will work for the entire community and not just favor a select few. with every sector assured of getting heard - it is certain that things will go smoothly.

lets not worry about the PFF and concern ourselves with CebuFA's problems. PFF hasn't raised a finger to help us so we might as well plan as if they will not assist us again. that's the beauty of autonomy - we can be our own men and not depend on others. afterall, we don't need anyone's permission to play football.

with all sectors properly represented, with all options properly discussed, with a development program in place and followed by all, i can then stop posting and just enjoy watching the games (11 a side tournament type format mind you).

I know that the cfa board realizes that full-sided games improve football much more effectively than lightning festivals. The problem I think is getting sponsors for this. Festivals are cheaper to sponsor. Aboitiz has scheduled regular games for the boys 6,8,10 and 12 that will run for several weekends and this will start in a few weeks I think. There is also an aboitiz cup for boys 15 this year like last year's games which will also run for several weekends. This is not too bad for the sport. But apart from Aboitiz, there are no other companies serious enough to sponsor. One option, in line with Ronaldo's idea of not relying too much on PFF, is for CFA to try to get foreign sponsorship or financial grants directly. One way to do this is for the CFA to be legally registered as a foundation. It is proven that foreign entities will be more inclined to to deal with a foundation rather than a mere association. This might or might not bring in funds but it is an option worth trying. A country with an 80M population will certainly be interesting for some investors.

roberto, to my knowlege, registering the CebuFA as a foundation would not be possible under existing SEC policies. despite it's independent SEC registration, CebuFA is recognized as an affiliate of a higher organization (the PFF), which makes it ineligible for Foundation status. i've actually been part of a similar move to register the local volleyball association over a decade ago to have "foundation status" so that it could be qualified to receive a grant from international Rotary Clubs but we were informed that such a procedure is not allowed. only the mother organization (in our case the PFF) can receive grants and not affiliates.

international organizations granting financial assistance are also bound to follow international and local laws, preventing them from giving out amounts to non-qualified NGO's which is a method long-used by money-laundering groups. to my knowlege, the only legal way for CebuFA to solicit and receive grants is for it to pass thru the PFF (bye bye grant).

i'm glad the age-groups will have tournaments but why is there no under14 tournament. RedRibbon is player15, which ironically is supposed to discover talents for the under14 national squad. why would CebuFA exclude such an age-group.

which now leads me to open up CebuFA's financial difficulties, which has been used as the reason why we have less tournaments nowadays.

take a look at those who bought voting-rights during the last election and you will see a lot of people with their own businesses (the list used to be posted in the old CFA website). these are the same group of people who voted for maximo's group and put them in control over cebufootball. i need to ask - where are they now ?

a month or so after maximo and his group took over CebuFA, they made an announcement informing the public to expect more tournaments. futsal was even mentioned as well as them focusing more on ladies football (scan the freeman and sunstar websites, those announcements are there somewhere). i have to accept that that announcement got me excited. to bad it turned out to be just an announcement.

one of the bragging points of the maximo group was their claim that they will do good for cebufootball because they have the support of many businessmen. again i have to ask - where is that support.

one person who witnessed the election once told me that just before the votes were cast, the nominees were requested to say something about their plans for cebufootball if and when they were elected to the board. the generic answer was "we will do our best to improve cebufootball".

excuse my frankness - their best isn't good enough.

correction, redribbon is P14, meant to discover talent for the PFF national under14 squad. ironic, since more than half who played in the redribbon wasn't eligible for the under14 national team.

good work PFF and CebuFA. next time, get your cutoff dates right.

the easiest way to get grants is still thru international socio-civic groups acting as recepients for their socio-civic or educational/medical assistance programs. fot a sport-governing body to become a recipient of such a grant, it has to prove that it has a development-plan (grassroots is best). it also has to prove it owns existing facilities that can serve as a venue for their program.

take note - proof of existing program and facilities. a mere "proposed program" is difficult to sell nowadays to international groups.

i did take a look at standards of international grants (2005 edition) and the anti money laundering act is very visible in the revised requirements.

thus, if we wish to be recepients of direct international assistance, we first have to have a development program and implement it. next, we need to have the basic facilities (a public football field) under the administration (not necessarily ownership) of the association.
