SHS-J bags two crowns in San Carlos City


COMPETING in their first tournament in football manic San Carlos City, the Eagles United/Sacred Heart School-Jesuit made it two-for-two as their two teams bagged the titles in their respective categories in the San Carlos City Summer Football Festival.

It was sweet change for the Sacred Heart boys, after bagging semifinal finishes in the Thirsty Cup 2006 and the GTZ Cup this year.

"At the start of the tournament, they seemed nervous and tense during the elimination round," said Dondon Ramos, a parent of one of the SHS-J players.

In the 10-under finals, SHS-J blanked Bais City, 2-0, on goals from Don Darren Ramos and Pedro Diao.

"Dia is the top scorer in the division. If they handed out MVP awards, he will surely win it," Ramos said.



It was a similar one-sided affair in the 8-under as Sacred Heart defeated Kids United of San Carlos City, 4-1, on goals by Matthew Reyes and Isagani Fernandez.

"Fernandez is a very good player," Ramos said.



The two teams were coached by Lito Ramos, who began training the team just three weeks ago. The 10-under team also lost in the GTZ Cup semifinal round to Ateneo de Manila University, a team they defeated in a friendly match a few days earlier.

After the two day fiesta, Sacred Heart is set to return for another festival in San Carlos City on July 1.

"The parents are already excited to return, and this time, we will be playing together with Paref-Springdale," Ramos said.

i hope Sacred Heart participates in more tournaments aside from the DECS-sanctioned competitions. we missed their presence in the Aboitiz Cup.

THE only positive thing that we can take in that loss against Timor Leste was that the U23 squad looked good in blue. And Ebong, too. The Blue-Haired fanatic whose voice we all heard on TV was fantastic. The team? The result? Mother Nature plays spoilsport

The heavy rains spoiled the debut of defending champions Don Bosco College yesterday, cutting short the match between DBC A(?) and Bright. Hopefully, it will be a sunny Sunday. P.S. It will be interesting to note, how DBC divided its teams for the U12.

A Pinoy played for Real Madrid? (updated)

HERE'S an interesting photo submitted by Asian Football Confederation women's committee member Cristina Ramos. Its taken at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and shows a gallery of the great players who played for Real Madrid. And guess where one of them is from? Jaron Genota said the only information he has managed to gather is that the player's name is Teus. I hope to get more information on this guy in the next few months. Ms. Ramos, who was also in the organizing committee of the Fifa U17 and U20 women's world cup, said the picture was part of Real Madrid's exhibit on the universality of their players. From Ms. Ramos, "Mike, the photo of the Filipino player was part of the display entitled "The Universality of our Players" in the Real Madrid museum in Bernabeu. It's funny that they acknowledged him but did not name him. Only those from countries which participated in the World Cup were named."
