NON-APPEARANCES and a controversy hounded the 6th Cebu Inter Club Invitational Tournament at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center.

The Don Bosco College 38-above men's team got stripped of their chance to play in the finals against Ormoc after organizers decided that one of their players, Genard Aller, was not eligible to play in the division.

However, the decision did not sit well with Neil Montesclaros and DBC as they were informed of the decision just minutes before the final was to start.

The penalty gave Queen City the right to face Ormoc, and the visitors promptly defeated the host, 2-0, on goals by Allen Perez and Danny Alajas to take the P15,000 top prize.

"We asked them for proof that our player is indeed under-age since last night (Sunday night) we showed them papers (supporting our claim) but they didn't accept it," Montesclaros said.

Montesclaros also said that during the Sunday night meeting, when Aller's eligibility was questioned, they were informed that they were set to talk on the issue further before the start of today's final.

"I thought that was fair, so I was surprised when we got here and we got a memo saying that our player was not eligible," he said.

Also, during their team managers meeting before the event started, Queen City's Richard Montayre told coaches that to show proof of their player's age, "they only need to show their drivers license, company IDs or other proofs."

Yesterday, organizers consulted the records of the Cebu Football Association to determine Aller's age and found out that he is not yet qualified to play in the division. They then informed DBC that their games were forefeited.

Montesclaros, who sits with the CebuFa board, will file a protest against the organizer's conduct with the CebuFa.

"I told (CebuFa president Jonathan) Maximo that I will sit out of the decision making for objectivity's sake," he said.

Meanwhile, the Men's Open wasn't spared of any problems after Foundation University decided to skip their final two matches, while Ormoc failed to show up for their match against DBC.

According to a Queen City official, Dumaguete was not satisfied with the officiating with the game, while Ormoc's failure to show up was due to a bad case of hangover.

DBC and Queen City automatically get 3-0 wins for the failure of Ormoc and Dumaguete to show up. DBC is now first with a 3-1 record.

Dumaguete was still in contention for the final four spot and their early departure makes today's match only for ranking, not for determining the final four as only four teams are left.

"Nanawag sila (Ormoc) nako kay dili daw sila katunga kay nangahubog gabi-I," he said.

In the lone' men's game yesterday, defending champion Hiroshi FC defeated West Negros College, 1-0, to move to second spot. They have the same record with DBC and goal difference but lost to Don BOsco, 1-2, in their first match.

Junard Aguilar scored the lone goal in the 23rd while Arndt Kolmar and the Hiroshi defense held the WNC strikers in check in the final minutes. The closest WNC got to scoring was not against the Hiroshi end, but on their own goal when Jude Tornilla almost headed the ball just inches away from their own goal.

Hiroshi will next face Queen City today.

In the women's side, Davao City's Merlou Albano scored six goals in D' Davao Survivors' 13-1 win over Don Bosco.

Claudith LapiƱa scored the lone goal for the Bosconians in the 37th and the young DBC squad celebrated as if they have won the match.

Today, Davao City will face Mulbachs, who will play minus red-carded players Ma-an Roa and Kelly Canton, while Queen City will play Ladies Football Club-CDO in the cross-over semifinals.
