Denker Cup Men's Open today
FOUR senior teams and the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) bound Cebu City team will vie for the Denker Cup Men’s Open title today at the Mepza 1 football field in Lapu-Lapu City.
The tournament is organized by the newly formed club, FC Inter Cebu, of German expat Manfred Schuwerk.
Aside from the Cviraa-bound team, coached by Francis Ramirez, the other teams are Queen City United of Mario Ceniza, San Roque FC and Cebu State College of Science and Technology, and FC Inter Cebu.
Ceniza is using the tournament as a preparation for his team when they host the prestigious, Cebu Inter Club Invitational tournament later this month.
According their official website at fcintercebu.com, the five teams will play a single round robin today with 15 minutes per half. At the end of the elimination round, the fourth and third ranked team will battle for third while the top two teams will play for the trophy.
To offset any controversies in disputed calls or decisions, the group has decided not to entertain any protests on referees and has appointed a jury.
“Protests will be handled by jury, nominated from participating teams. Each team will nominate one representative,” their website said.
After today’s Men’s open, the Denker Cup resumes on April 23 for the 1991 age group, April 30 for the 1989 age group, May 7 for 1993 and May 14 for the 1987 bracket.
