DBTC sweeps Boscolympics football crowns

THE DON Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) Greywolves successfully defended its over-all title in the 2006 Don Boscolympics in Pampanga over the weekend.

DBTC won the high school basketball, football, and volleyball while topping elementary football and finishing third in elementary basketball.

DBTC, one of the powerhouse football teams in the city, got even with Don Bosco Victorias of Bacolod, as it took the title with a 2-0 win.

“I think, one of the biggest factors was we played in too many tournaments in Cebu, that’s one of our biggest preparations and because of that, the kids are ready to play anytime,” said DBTC athletic director Bro. Marie Aberasturi.

Aside from the Boscolympics, the Greywolves also compete in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., Milo Little Olympics, Cebu City Olympics as well as local tournaments for football and basketball.

Ken Racho scored the first goal in the 5th minute and DB Victorias efforts for an equalizer was quashed after an owngoal in the 88th sealed their loss.

In the elementary contest, DB Victorias took the lead in the 1st minute before Leonard Tan banged in the rebound off a penalty just before the half. Miguel Caindic got the go ahead early in the second half and Bryce del Mar and Andrew Tabar struck in the 65th and 72nd to cap the win.

Their high school basketball team defeated DB Mandaluyong a 76-68 in the final to get the trophy while the volleyball team needed four sets to defeat DB Mandaluyong for the crown.

Other participants in the annual Boscolympics were Don Bosco schools from Tarlac, Pampang, Makat, Sta. Rosa and Canlubang.

Mike,

No bullshit, pildi Victorias? Isn't that team the Palaro Champion? Forgot what age group lang.
Maayo unta mo sulay pod sila RIFA sunod tuig.
Nindot kaayo kung and final Don Bosco vs. Springdale para maklaro lang gyud nga mas maayo ang taga visayas.

That DB-Victorias high school football team had the same players that represented the Visayas in the last Under 16 Coke-Go-for-Goal held two years ago. That is also practically the same team (with Ilo-ilo reinforcements) that represented Region 6 (high school)in last years' Palaro.

That DB-Victorias elementary football team had almost all of the players that represented Region 6 (elementary)in last years' Palaro.

Unlike the much-publicized RIFA and Alaska Cup, the Boscolympics is an 11-a-side competition (my idea of true football and not the 7-a-side version), with FIFA standards and rules applied. Except for Don Bosco Canlubang (a seminary campus), the other DB teams (Cebu, Victorias, Pampanga, Makati, Mandaluyong, Tondo-Manila, Tarlac) were consistent qualifiers to the then Coke-Go-for-Goal under16, as well as the Palaro games. There were no patsies on that tournament since all the teams were city or regional champions in their respective cities, provinces or districts.

All teams played 2-3 full court, full time games per day including the elementary teams for 3 straight days. It wasn't 15 minute games and basketball sized playing fields. The skills and team tactics as well as player stamina displayed on that tournament was a joy to watch. I was in football heaven (philippine style) for several days.

By the way, immediately after the awarding ceremonies, both football teams went up to Baguio where they played against the Baguio Cup champions (their version of our own Aboitiz Cup). Don Bosco Cebu High school team defeated Brent-Baguio International School Under 19 team 2-0 while the DB Elementary team defeated the Baguio Football Club Player12 team 6-0. Both games were played immediately after a 5 hour bus trip.

coldest time sa baguio in five years. kurog itlog. nanghambog ang school administrator (Mark Bretherton used to be the school admin there) sa Brent-Baguio nga gi-lubong nila CIS nato but walay ayo ilang duwa. Ga sige lang buto-buto. Na tsambahan ra tingali nila ang CIS plus wala pa dyud si Red naka duwa.

Bai, no complaints sa non-printing sa results sa games. I think we were not able to contact or inform you regarding the games. Pa-wala-wala ang cell signal didto sa Mabalacat, Pampanga plus kahinganlan pang mo-adto sa Angeles or Dau just to get a decent internet connection. Basin adto na hinuon ko ma pad-pad sa mga bar. Mga hapon og koreano na ang daghan didto, menos na ang kano. Still reading the new topics and posts sa forum. Still the same issues but there are a lot of new sides and interesting opinions.

Maayo kaayo ang Victorias/Negros Occ. (Palaro defending champions). Both elementary and high school teams nila will represent their district sa regional qualifiers for the Palaro games. Nindot unta if both Cebu City teams will also win the CVIRAA aron kita gihapon magrepresent. I think kaya ra sa Abellana ang Victorias for as long as Francis has tall, big and mobile defenders. Victorias HS used the 4-5-1 formation, stopper-sweeper ang defense and grabe mo saka-kanaog ang ilang mga wingers. they have two tall, fast strikers/wingers (murang si junard aguilar mo duwa)who may be our biggest threat if our defenders aren't fast enough. we used a flat four defense against them and put the two central defenders close to the box everytime they were on offense plus nag butang og defensive halfback once we got the lead.

by the way, congrats to springdale for their championships sa RIFA. got to talk with NCR and Baguio based coaches, and they said Cebu teams are always respected and feared on the pitch for their technical skills and tactics. Mario Ceniza has a good reputation among the coaches there.
