CebuFA decides on Tuesday

The Cebu Football Association will meet again on Tuesday for the decision regarding the fate of those involved in the free-for-all in the aborted semifinal match between Hiroshi FC and Crazy Horse FC in the Thirsty Cup.

“We got the referees report and it was mentioned that four players form Hiroshi and three from Crazy Horse were involved,” CebuFa president Jonathan Maximo said.

Maximo said, that in the interest of due process, they will ask the players mentioned and the Crazy Horse and Hiroshi managers to submit their own versions of the incident, to get their side.

“We also want to listen to the players,” Maximo said.

The sanctions from the CebuFa will be stiffer since it will affect all CebuFa sanctioned tournaments and will be forwarded to the PFF.

According to Maximo, the PFF Code of Discipline stipulates that “all cases of violence must be severely punished” and that the suggested 12 months suspension for getting involved in a free for all “must be considered as a minimum”

i agree with 12 months minimum suspension for players, not the team. as practiced by FAs in other countries, other possible remedies would be:

1. ban manager and staff from sidelines, for a specific number of games
2. slap fines (pwede himuon bond) on teams and players

pwede pud community service. seriously.

a 12month suspension would send out the message that a rumble is equal to that of a forfieture. it SHOULD be more than that. at least three years should be given to those PLAYERS ON THE FIELD. as for the substitutes and other team members, their invasion of the field warrants a sanction twice as heavy so a four-five year ban shouldn't be too far off.

The case of the coach suspended for one (1) year for non-appearance of a scheduled match was different. The coach & tne team forfeited their games TWICE, in succession, during the 2005 aboitiz Boys-15 Cup elimination round.

As per PFF Code of Discipline:

"Non-appearance of a team for a scheduled match (not being able to field a minimum of (9) players at the scheduled time of the match):

-Coming late
-Plain non-appearance

Sanction: Forfeiture of the match and fine of P1,000.00
Repetition: Fine of P5,000.00. The whole team including coaching staff will be suspended for 12 months and will not be allowed to continue playing in the league."

CebuFA Board decided to spare the suspension of the players due to the fact that this is a youth tournament and normally players depend on the instructions of an adult, in this case, their coach. The players were given a verbal warning though.

As you can see, normal, 1st time offense on non-appearance of a team carries only a forfeiture & a small fine. Problem is, the team did it TWICE. Thanks

comparing the coach sanction and the rumble (future)sanction would be like comparing apples and oranges. if a comparison should be required, then it should be on the effect both infractions had on the general public, the public disgust and outcry, and the very public call for immediate sanctions.

the community right now is focusing on the thirsty infraction so i would suggest that the CFA also focus on that.the forfieture sanction has been dealt and accepted by the parties involved so that is a non-issue anymore. let us not stray away from the topic and focus instead on the hiroshi/crazyhorse situation.

what does the PFF rulebook say on who will represent the FA if such a situation occurs?

i meant to ask "who will represent the FA in the regional finals" if such an event occurs.

I asked Maxi regarding that, he said that there are several options for an FA to use, in forming a team. One is thru an elimination (which is what the Aboitiz League is all about) and then another one is thru a selection. since they used the elimination type..if ever the two teams get penalized for their involvement in the brawl...they could just give the right to the third ranked team.

Or they could just pull the rug from under everybody and form a selection team...but that, my friend, will cause a lot of ruckus...

mike, assuming hiroshi and crazy horse will not be allowed to represent cebu, the most logical choice would be to send the no.3 seed which is USJR-Alumni, considering that forming a selection team with only two weeks left to prepare would be very, very difficult.

mike, i asked a USJR-Alumni player if they are willing to represent Cebu and he told me that they may not be prepared to do so. School, logistics and other reasons came up but the most significant reason he mentioned was that they have not seriously practiced as a team for quite some time already.

Player availability would also be a problem for USJR-Alumni. That team they fielded in the Aboitiz Cup had several Don Bosco PE instructors who cannot just leave their jobs to play. They also have other alumni players who have their own regular jobs where they would find it hard to ask for a leave, or risk losing their jobs if the resort to absenting themselves.

If a selection team is to be formed, then the first decision that has to be made is to assign the coach, who will have the very difficult job of getting together players willing to represent Cebu in such short notice.

If USJR decides to decline the chance to represent Cebu, will an invitation be then given to the 4th seed - Don Bosco Alumni. However, I'm not sure about these guys finances and competitiveness (they have a lot of old players on their lineup).

That Thirsty rumble really messed up our chances. Hiroshi was our best team but unfortunately not our most intelligent. Here's wishing Maximo and the CebuFA the best of luck in sorting this out.
