HIROSHI FC and Crazy Horse FC are gearing for a titular showdown after drubbing their respective foes yesterday in the Aboitiz League Division A at the San Roque Parish football field.
Both teams are undefeated in five matches and lead the standings with 15 points and 28 goals scored. If not for the costly mistake of Hiroshi's keeper in its first game, the team could have been number one in the league by just a goal.
In the first game, Rugmo Debra defeated Danao FC, 2-0, for its second win. Ian Cadampog and John Casayan scored in the 52nd and 68th to keep Rugmo in the top four with seven points. Danao is sixth with only three points and will be relegated to Division B next year.
Yesterday, Crazy Horse earned win number five with a 1-0 escape over a gritty Don Bosco Alumni FC, while Hiroshi also had a similar score against the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).
Former national team mainstay Joshua Fegidero headed in Albert Nangkil pass six minutes from time for the lone goal of the match while keeper Jesus Singson Jr earned another shutout.
The loss dropped Don Bosco to fourth place with four points in five matches.
On the other hand, the 1-0 scoreline belied the dominance of Hiroshi in the second game - as the players' superior conditioning had the USJ-R defense struggling to keep up with them.
Rolando Verdida got tripped inside the box but Rocky Garciano penalty shot was saved by Peter Onde. Verdida took matters on his own, with a drive in the 27th from left flank to bang in the lone goal of the match.
In the second half, Hiroshi was running USJ-R to the ground as they kept on pressing. Workhorse Junard Aguilar bungled his three shots while Julius Acre's free kick in the 54th kissed the bar.
USJ-R, who fielded some of the players who lost to the University of the Visayas in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc finals, had a chance in the 72nd after Voltaire Montebon was called for a foul against Lemar Baunsit.
However, Baunsit's penalty hit the post, preserving goal keeper Frederick Alazas' shut out.
