DBC, Hiroshi set up finals

DON Bosco College (DBC) and Hiroshi FC set up a thrilling rematch after surviving separate foes in the Aboitiz 12 Under Cup semifinals at the San Roque Parish football grounds yesterday.

DBC outlasted an undermanned Cebu International School (CIS) squad, 3-1, while Hiroshi blanked Paref-Springdale, 3-0, to set up an exciting finals next Sunday.

In their first encounter, Hiroshi fought DBC to a 1-1 draw.

“It just wasn’t our day,” Springdale coach Mario Ceniza said.

Dan Villarico scored first in the 20th and Anthony Prince connected in the 32nd before Joselou Bacunawa scored two minutes from time for the rout.

On the other hand, despite playing with only nine players, CIS took the lead courtesy of Emmanuel Cunningham before a full strength DBC squad took over with Winirch Baclay and Miko Limalima scoring a minute apart while Miguel Caindec struck in the 15th.

In the Under 15 division, Michaele Sharpe was a one-man scoring machine for CIS, scoring four goals in its 4-4 draw with Hiroshi, while Paref-Springdale started slow before defeating a much-improved FC Inter Cebu.

After Harry Bordalba got the lead for Hiroshi in the 18th, Sharpe’s struck from left four minutes later for an equalizer and impressed everybody after scoring just 20 seconds into the second half. Sharpe dribbled past everybody after the restart and banged it straight to the goal.

In the 52nd he scored again, hitting the lower corner and three minutes later made it 4-1 for CIS. However, the efforts seemed to have taxed him out as he ran out of steam in the late stages of the match, suffering from muscle cramps.

Boardalba scored again in the 64th and 71 and Jose Dia got the equalizer off a free kick deep in injury time.

In the next game, Springdale found themselves trailing 2-1 after Jorro Bordalba and Jonel Palang scored for Inter Cebu, but a bad clearance by Romel Carbellido sent the ball straight to Inter’s own net for a 2-2 count.

In the second half, Timothy Matteo banged in Carlos Veloso’s cross and Kenneth Enriquez converted on a Veloso assits in the 72nd before Velso scored in the 85th, and Bryan Liu made it 6-2 in the 42nd.
