Elying gets AFC C License

By Marian C. Baring (Sun.Star Cebu) CEBU International School’s football coach Eleazar Toledo joined the elite circle of Cebuano coaches who have earned the license C certification from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Toledo, who took up the course last summer, received the results only this week and found out that he is one of 10 who passed the licensure exam. A total of 22 coaches from the entire country took part in the licensing. Apart from Toledo, the other coaches with the same license are Glen Ramos of University of Cebu and Mario Ceniza of Paref-Springdale. Cebu-based coaches Joshua Fegidero, who is currently with University of San Carlos and Dennis PeƱalosa of Bright Academy, both from Negros Oriental FC also hold the same licenses.

Some good news (sort of)

Just less than a month into their new term, the good souls at the Cebu City Sports Commission are mulling a complete rehab of the archaic Cebu City Sports Center. First, the CCSC wanted to repair the rubber oval. (Hohum, next story please) Something which should have done, er...half a lifetime ago? Now, when the commission learned it will cost P18 million just to repair the rubber oval, yep that same stretch where high heels, leather shoes, and what-have-you trek daily, they are shooting for the moon! They want the whole facility face lifted, repaired,  rehabbed. The whole shebang. The cost? A cool P45 million pesos. Expensive, eh? The CCSC is planning to ask President Arroyo for the cash, when Councilor Jakosalem joins her in her State of the Nation Address next week.  And if ever PGMA grants the request, then we have ourselves a cause for celebration. Or do we? If ever the CCSC gets to the repair part, it has to do the maintenance part of the bargain.  And as all football regulars in

The CebuFa elections

I bet that Manny Pacquiao will beat Marco Antonio Barrera again before the CebuFA will hold its elections. News about the CebuFA are rare these days, come to think of it, it's easier to get hold of your friendly neighborhood snatcher than to hold the CebuFA president for an interview  these days. Fishy? I say, get your hook.

Football Forum

I just brushed off the dust of the football forum in Cebu.  It's been ages since I last checked it out. I realized, it's still on.  For the interested souls out there, check it out at talkfootball.cebunetwork.com.

Mizuno update

THE second edition of the Mizuno Football Fiesta Cebu is slated to take place in August, as agreed during the coaches meeting yesterday at the Banilad Town Center. The tournament is set to open on Aug. 25-26 and wraps up in the next weekend on Sept. 1-2. Organizers are, however, contemplating on condensing the four-day, two-weekend competition to three days, to accommodate the out-of-town teams. This, however, still needs to be finalized. Last year, the tournament attracted 136 teams for its debut, with the teams coming from local football clubs, school-based teams and even foreign teams. The tournament, organized by Mint Sportshop, the exclusive distributor of Mizuno products, will feature competitions in 13 divisions. These are the Players 6, 8 and 10, the Boys and Girls 12, 17 and 19, Boys 14, Ladies, Men’s and 36 and above age groups. The Players 6-10 will have 12 minutes of game time with each team allowed to field in 7-9 players. The rest of the divisions will have 15 minutes wit
