Let's help a fellow Azkal fan

There are only five finalists left in the Suzuki Cup ultimate fan contest and one Pinay made it.  She's now third, trailing two Indonesian fans.  Well, let's lend her our clicks, shall we? You can vote here

Pascual, Beloya make lineup for Singapore friendly

PAOLO Pascual has made the lineup for the Philippine team that will see action against Singapore in the Nov. 15 friendly at the Cebu City Sports Center. The lineup was released by the Cebu Football Association, the host of the event and listed Pascual as one of the two keepers.  Ed Sacapano of the Philippine Army is expected to start in the game, while the other regular sub keeper, Ref Cuaresma of the Loyola Meralco Sparks wasn't listed.

Let's help an Azkal fan fulfill her dreams

When I got the copy of the e-mail from the PFF for the AFF Suzuki Cup contest for fans , I promised to support whoever I know will join the contest.  I joined a similar contest for football stories in April, 2010 --with the winner going to the 2010 World Cup.  I made it to third place for that Asia-wide contest, and there were no facebook/twitter fan support then (I like to think what I wrote deserved third place). So fellow Pinoy football fans--and to the few Azkals who stray on this page--let's support Rica Anaa Aquino in her quest to win the Suzuki Ultimate Fan contest. It takes three clicks--first you have to like the Suzuki Cup fan contest, and go to "view and vote" and vote on her entry entitled, A Fan, A supporter." Remember, the Azkals became the Azkals because of social media, so, let's support a fellow fan.  The link is here http://www.facebook.com/affsuzukicup/app_420836774637620

PR: Search for the ultimate Asean football fan

Do you want to win the latest gadgets and other goodies? Read on.  I hope the Philippine online football community will back all Pinoy entries in this contest---ML Singapore, 24 October 2012: Southeast Asian football fans have a passion for the game that is like nowhere else in the world. They bring a vibrancy and intensity to the sport that alights the senses and makes the AFF Suzuki Cup such an incredible tournament.

Dan Palami to issue statement on suspension

Hi guys, please check the www.azkalsfootballteam.com for the official statement of Philippine national team manager Dan Palami regarding the suspension. I was told I got some of the details wrong, so, let's all wait for it. The statement will be up shortly. Cheers. Now what should I do with that Fair Play, should I delete it but my stats show it got read 150 times already...hmmm.

A new Cup is in town

The tournament that was launched to monstrous hype last year is going to be reformatted and is also looking for a new sponsor after Smart had repackaged its P80-million financial assistance to the Philippine Football Federation just a year after announcing it. In the reformatted tournament, 16 clubs will vie it out for the title and all UFL clubs will be involved and qualifiers from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, will also  get a chance to compete with the top clubs.

A few points about sharing stories from this blog

IF you were surprised with the disclaimer I had on the Azkals vs. Thailand report the other day, please don't.   I had to do that because it was a report--and I no longer write that many reports--for my paper that was yet to be filed, and I've always told my staff not to reveal in social media, what you are about to write. (In my defense, though, two writers from another paper were present in the meeting, so it wasn't much of a secret already). So, what's my take on sharing? This is the Internet, and anything goes actually, but here's my requests. If you "copy-paste" my articles, please acknowledge the source with a link.  Or even, better, do it the way Pinoygreats.com does it, by just posting the first few paragraphs and the link.  Coming up with an original story is a whole lot harder than copy-pasting stories. Exceptions, of course, for www.pinoyfootball.com, they have my permission to post entire article since the site started.  Ditto with all ...

Interesting UFL Cup scenario: Group G to determine Global's fate

GLOBAL Fc fans who are worried that their team won't get to defend its title in the UFL Cup and gets booted out in the elimination round need to watch for the results of today's Group G game between Garuda and Manhur. Now why would a game between two winless teams (Garuda, 0-2) and Manhur (0-1) matter?

UFL turns down Cebu Queen City protest

THE technical committee of the UFL Cup has turned down Cebu Queen City United's protest against Pachanga about their game that didn't push through last Sunday in the opening of the Cup. Queen City, which is flying to Manila for their weekly games, asked the UFL to declare Pachanga as having forfeited its match since it failed to show up for the rescheduled game at 3 p.m. in Alabang.

Global FC hires Mackinnon

This is my story for Sun.Star Cebu on Sept. 28. FORMER Cebu-based football guru Graeme Mackinnon is back in Philippine football but his return may result to some mixed-feelings for Cebu football fans. The already intriguing match-up between DanPalami’s Global FC and Cebu Queen City United just got a bit more intriguing after Palami confirmed that he hired Mackinnon as his head coach. Global FC and Cebu Queen City United is in Group C of the UFL Cup together with Pachanga and the Iloilo Stallions.
