Don Bosco sweeps City Olympics title

DON Bosco Technical College showed its football class as it swept the elementary and high school titles of the 21st Cebu City Olympics at the University of San Carlos Talamban Campus Field.

Its high school team, backed by Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala, beat rival Abellana National School (ANS), 4-2, via shootout for its third straight title, while its elementary team blanked Bright Academy, 5-0, in the finals.

The win in the high school division was Don Bosco’s third straight title this year. It also won the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. title and the Milo Little Olympics crown.

“The match was very close. The conditioning of the Abellana players is good and they are very prepared,” said DBTC head coach Glenn Ramos.

DBTC’s Jay Arizabal banked the early goal in the seventh minute but ANS’s Reynald Amante scored the equalizer in the 19th.

In the second half, Dennis Legaspi gave Don Bosco the lead in the 56th minute but Keith Ryan Arranguez quickly equalized three minutes later.

The two teams were still tied after 90 minutes and the extension, resulting to a shootout where keeper Rafael Clifford de Guzman provided the heroics as he stopped ANS’ Shane Sarmiento and John Gomora.  Jolo Mercado, Jay Arizabal, Christian Agot and Carlo Abella scored for DBTC.

“Gwapo and duwa. Wala mi kamahayan because the players gave their best and they step-up their performance from last time,” said ANS head coach Francis Ramirez.

Both teams faced each other during the finals of the Milo Little Olympics, which was won by DBTC.

“It was different in Milo because we were totally outclassed but for this game, they played hard and applied their skills,” Ramirez added.

In the elementary division Don Bosco, added the Cebu City Olympics title to its Milo Little Olympics crown after outclassing Bright Academy, 5-0.

The Blue-Haired fanatic whose voice we all heard on TV was fantastic. The team? The result? Mother Nature plays spoilsport

The heavy rains spoiled the debut of defending champions Don Bosco College yesterday, cutting short the match between DBC A(?) and Bright. Hopefully, it will be a sunny Sunday. P.S. It will be interesting to note, how DBC divided its teams for the U12.

A Pinoy played for Real Madrid? (updated)

HERE'S an interesting photo submitted by Asian Football Confederation women's committee member Cristina Ramos. Its taken at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and shows a gallery of the great players who played for Real Madrid. And guess where one of them is from? Jaron Genota said the only information he has managed to gather is that the player's name is Teus. I hope to get more information on this guy in the next few months. Ms. Ramos, who was also in the organizing committee of the Fifa U17 and U20 women's world cup, said the picture was part of Real Madrid's exhibit on the universality of their players. From Ms. Ramos, "Mike, the photo of the Filipino player was part of the display entitled "The Universality of our Players" in the Real Madrid museum in Bernabeu. It's funny that they acknowledged him but did not name him. Only those from countries which participated in the World Cup were named."
