Aboitiz Cup P12
If ever the CebuFA plans pushes through (And if the other FAs have the money for it) we will be seeing the best of the country compete in the P12 division of the festival)
PFF's Vince Santos and the national coach are coming to scout players, I know Vince and he's a dedicated guy. Let's just say that he got a better offer abroad (a football related job at that) but he decided to stick around to oversee the CFE program.
Now, if the best P12 teams in the country drops by. How will the Cebu teams fare? Its doubtful if an elite Cebu team in the division will also be formed.
With the fierce rivarly going on, and with the coach having to handle their school teams in the Cup, and to shift to handling a Cebu team, would be tough also.
I'm hoping that the rest of the FAs will send their elite teams for the festival. It's just a festival, but, the P12 division is very important, not only to cebu football, but to RP football.
After all, the battlecry is to win the Seag gold in 2015. And the burden, my friends, is on the shoulders of our 12-year-olds.
Forget the soccermoms, dads, and all.
Let's talk about the players.

scouting players during a seven a side festival may be ineffective. the national coaches may see glimpses of individual talent but the best way to assess what's out there would be to scout the teams and players during a full size match. the coaches should scout when the tournament or cup is ongoing, and not during festivals.
a have issues concerning this group of P12 players supposedly for the 2015 SEAG. is it really the right time to pinpoint those with potential and tell them they are part of a training pool ? or should we just organize more tournaments in ALL divisions then choose by the time these boys are 18 or 19 years old and tell them they will be part of the national pool for the 2015 SEAG.
unless the "chosen" P12 players for the national pool are all in one island province, then the idea might be ineffective. i am under the understanding that the CFE was meant for the 2015 SEAG but wasn't it for players born 1992 ? today's P12 players are born 1994. they will just be 20-21 years old come 2015 while the cutoff age for the SEAG is 23. so i am a bit confused there. if we are preparing for the 2015 SEAG and that is what the CFE is supposed to be for then we may be looking at the wrong age group.
by the way, Maximo has no tournament scheduled for players born 1992. ironic (or suspicious) isn't it.
born 1992 or 1994, another issue would be the commitment of these boys. what if the they transfer or migrate to another country long before 2015. wouldn't that make the program useless.
i believe that the best way to prepare - and also to improve our overall game - is simply to organize more tournaments for each division or age-group. let us not content ourselves with one tournament a year plus festivals and proclaim we are successful. let's try to have 2-3 league or tournament formats a year per division. that way, we are not just developing a select few, but also developing all our players.
as for the 2015 SEAG, since the cut-off age is 23, i would suggest that we form the national pool at least 4 years before that when the qualified players are 17-18 years old. by that time, they will be in first year college and it would be easier to group and train them together for the SEAG.
give the members of training pool college scholarships as incentive for them to agree to train together for 4-5 years. send them to UP for example where they can train as a team and perhaps compete in the UAAP, NCAA and other NCR tournaments. this way, we are not just choosing our best PLAYERS. we are preparing our best TEAM.
choosing P12 players now and annointing them as our football saviours will only breed favoritism (shucks, there's that filthy word again). it is also very impractical from my point of view. you will only see FA leaders and friends of leaders jockeying for their sons to be one of the choosen.
mike, please all clarify what you wrotein Sunstar a few days ago- when Maximo says P12 does he mean boys born 1994. There was also a mention on 1992 as CFE's target age group- is this a differen group from the P12 he mentioned?
Anyway, the reasons mentioned I remember is because CFA wanted this 1991 as the qualifying tournament for next years PFF Regionals. They also said that anyway, Red Ribbon will come out with a 1992 tournament later on which is actually not sure because of their tight budgets.
I also dont agree with this decision because many players in the 1993 and 1992- supposedly the hope of the fatherland, will not be included in the 1991 teams being too young or if included, most of them will just be benched. This is especially truenin the case of the bigger schools who have a many players like Don Bosco.
Why not have both 1991 and 1992 age groups? I dont think, it will cost that much more to have an additional age group?
if so, then why the hell did redribbon have a 1991 cutoff date. more than a majority of those that participated in it weren't eligible to tryout for the PFF team.
this year may be no different. as early as now, maximo must clarify what tournament will be held for those born 1992-1993, which should be P14. those born 1991 are now competing in the U16 or P15 division.
my suspicion - Maximo wants other groups to bear the responsibilty of organizing tournaments - a responsibilty that should be the CebuFA's. that's that for the moment. the rest of that is pure speculation on my part but it is an open secret in the sidelines.
i've posted it here before, the RedRibbon management announced that they will be re-evaluating their non-traditional sponsorships, thus their football activities may be cut. if that happens, what will the players born 1992-1993 do ? festivals lang ? we all are in agreement that tournaments are best for the boys, so how come we are hinging our development on festivals.
there is no other time for the coach to scout players. the palaro will be next year yet, while PFF will be joining a P14 tournament, also next summer. the one the springdale players joined.
They could go around the country for the various local tournaments, but I doubt the PFF will even consider that. I think, they'd do it the way they did it before. conduct tryouts in manila, bacolod and cebu.
good morning
riscoh, i don't care if they don't listen to me. what's important are the issues presented. as i said, we should be an association of policies and not personalities. i'm just a personality here.
